Jane Boyd
The Artist
In my work, my focus is to create and capture the spirit of what I saw and what comes to mind. The creation of an abstracted version of what is actually there but with the suggestion of things that are not seen but felt whether a mood or memory. Out of random marks, something recognizable emerges while something one thought to be recognizable recedes into randomness.
Working with oil and cold wax, I layer texture and colour through the use of various palette knives. Using neutral colours as my foundation provides me with a soothing and calming feeling. I like moody and unpredictable colours and enjoy mixing my own often tweaking tube colour and discovering a "new shade".
I am inspired by the feeling of open spaces, water, and big skies. I like the idea of each painting being a journey, ending with a beautiful destination.
